ABOUT THE PERSON BEHIND THE PRACTICE

Therapy begins
with being heard.

Hi, I’m Sumia Abdul-Matin. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and I offer virtual psychotherapy to people across Ontario.

My approach is warm, relational, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. I work with people who have spent a great deal of time trying to understand themselves, yet still notice that certain emotional or relationship patterns feel difficult to shift.

I believe it can be helpful to make room not only for what has happened in your life, but also for how those experiences have felt, and how they may still be influencing your relationships and sense of self.

01 / HOW I WORK

We can be curious about what your emotions are telling you.

My work is grounded primarily in Emotion-Focused Therapy and attachment-based psychotherapy. In practice, that may mean looking at how emotions arise, the roles they play in your life, and how early and current relationships affect the way you connect with yourself and others.

I also integrate CBT-informed and existential perspectives when they fit the person and the work we are doing. Therapy is collaborative: we can pay attention to what matters to you, rather than forcing your experience into one fixed framework.

02 / WHAT MATTERS IN THE ROOM

01

Safety and care

A thoughtful pace that considers your needs, boundaries, and experiences.

02

Relationships and emotions

An invitation to notice patterns, responses, connection, and attachment.

03

Your context

Culture, identity, family, and lived experience are welcome in the conversation.

03 / A WHOLE-PERSON PERSPECTIVE

Space for faith, culture, and meaning.

My background in Spiritual Care has shaped my sensitivity to questions of belief, culture, identity, purpose, and meaning. Some clients want to include these subjects in therapy; others do not. Both are welcome.

If spirituality or faith matters to you, we can explore that part of your experience respectfully and without assumptions. If it doesn’t, our work is still grounded in your needs, relationships, and goals.
